Yes, so excited to share this BIG Bali guide with you guys! As you probably already know Milan and I traveled around Bali for 4 weeks in the month of July. Last week we arrived back in rainy Amsterdam, lost the #balilifevibe but luckily we have the pictures and soon to be published video’s to share with you! If you have a trip to Bali planned, or if you are just curious about our time on this beautiful island, have fun reading!
First things first, we traveled with Garuda Airlines which I highly recommend. Lot’s of space, friendly staff and good entertainment. We had our first layover of 1 hour at Jakarta after flying to Bali, our travel time was about 16 hours which was great! Also the prices are really good, so definitely worth checking out.
Our first stop was Jimbaran, we booked a lovely hotel to just relax after the long journey and also to acclimatize. After Jimbaran our travel looked like this:
Jimbaran – Uluwatu – Seminyak – Canggu – Ubud – Nusa Lemongan – Uluwatu – Gili Trawangan – Canggu
Now let’s dive into the good part, where to stay, eat, shop and what do you have to do on Bali?
Where to stay?
As you can see we traveled around and stayed at many different places. Because we were in Bali during high season the hotel were much more expensive than they usually are. So if you want to go to bali I would recommend going in May or September.
Kupu Kupu Jimbaran The first hotel we stayed at was truly beautiful and perfect to start or end your holiday. The rooms were huge with an amazing bed, perfect view, nice swimming pool and close by the beach! They also had a great spa by L’Occitaine and the breakfast was the best of all the hotels we stayed at!
Pink Coco Uluwatu A hotel totally in Pink? I had to book it of course (sssht Milan didn’t know). This was such a cute place! Uluwatu was by far our favourite place in bali. It had beautiful beaches and was overall really quite compared with Seminyak or Canggu for example. The hotel rooms are simple but have everything you need. I can’t recommend this hotel enough.
Sal Secret Place Bingin Beach Our favourite beach in Bali was Bingin Beach. After we stayed at Uluwatu at the start of July we knew we wanted to come back later in July. This hotel was beyond amazing. The interior was spot on (all White everything), the view overlooking the ocean, the super friendly and helpful staff and the yummy fresh breakfast which was served in the shared living room by the sweetest Indonesian woman. This is the place I miss the most and you should definitely check out.
Brown Feather Hotel Canggu I loved Canggu and this hotel is right around the corner of this cute little town filled with the best brunch places, beaches and surfers (and my bestie who lives there). We stayed here 2 times, we came back the last 2 nights after Gili because we loved this place so much. The interior is beautiful, the beds oh so comfy, a nice pool and close by everything.
Tiger Lily’s Nusa Lembongan When you are in Nusa Lembongan you have to stay here. Super cute little houses with thatched roofs, open bathroom, close by everything and runned by a super sweet Australian girl. Also their restaurant is super good with the best guacamole I have ever tasted.
Where to have diner
A very important question (or to me it is). I’m always on the hunt for the best restaurants and Bali is filled with trendy hotspots to a point it’s quite overwhelming. So which ones are really worth checking out?
Fish Market Jimbaran Not really a “trendy hotspot” but definitely a must when you are in Bali. Fresh fish at Jimbaran Bay with you feet in the sand (or sea when it’s starting to get close by) and only candle light. It’s always super busy and there are lot’s of restaurants. Our favourite was Menega Cafe where we had delicious jumbo praws and fresh lobster.
La Barraca Canggu When you want to indulge into a delicious pizza or pasta you have to go to La Barraca. Super friendly staff and yummy food.
Biku Seminyak I had the best Indonesian food at this place which is close by the beach. I had the best Mie Goreng and chicken satay with homemade krupuk at this place. They seem to be famous for their high tea’s.
Saigon Seminyak A lovely Vietnamese restaurant with the best springrolls I have ever had. Along with other amazing dishes on the menu and it looks super cute as well. One of my favorite diner places in Bali <3
Motel Mexicola This place was something else. I heard many great stories about this place so I was very curious to find out where the fuss was all about. It was a HUGE and super kitch Mexican restaurant with amazing food (I was amazed how good it was) with a great atmosphere. Make sure to stay after 10pm because then everybody gets tequilla and is dancing on the tables on fine 80’s/90’s hits.
Dandelion Canggu Something completely the opposite of Motel Mexicola, haha. A very serene, romantic and lovely place in the middle of Canggu with delicious authentic Indonesian dishes and good wine (which is very hard to find in Bali).
Warung 24/7 Kuta We went here for a dinner with friends who got married at Gili. Before we went there we didn’t had high expectations because we didn’t heard good stories about Kuta, but this warung was located at a hidden local market and it’s such a great place! Runned by the sweetest Indonesian guy with the biggest smile. The (street) food was delicious and I would definitely come back here!
Where to have brunch
Brunch time is my favourite time, can’t get enough of poached eggs and avocado toast with lot’s of soy lattes and healthy juices. Bali has many great brunch places! We couldn’t try out everything but find some amazing places. Here our faves!
Corner House Seminyak My number 1 favourite place, not only because of the beautiful interior and atmosphere. The food is delicious and healthy. They serve coffee from revolver which is amazing and you should definitely try out the iced latte. Milan and I like to share our food so we ordered the eggs benedict which is an all time favourite and the buckweat pancakes. So GOOD!
Revolver Cafe Seminyak Such a good place for good coffee and breakfast/brunch. Must visit when you are in Seminyak.
Milk&Madu Canggu My favourite place in Canggu for brunch! They have so many delicious dishes on the menu it’s impossible to make a decision. They also have the famous breakfast bowls and yummy smoothies. The atmosphere is great, such a nice place to start you day before heading to the beach!
Watercress Canggu This one is very similair to Milk&Madu. Amazing menu with lot’s of brunch classics. It’s located in the same street as Brown Feather Hotel where we stayed at so most of the time we started here for a nice coffee and fresh fruit salad.
What to do?
Well there are a 1000 things you can do in Bali. Lot’s of tours, beautiful temples and lot’s of water sports and snorkeling. I will share my favorite things we did!
Jatiluwhi Rice terrace This was beyond beautiful. There are lot’s of rice terraces/fields that you can visit around Ubud but this one is definitely worth the drive. It’s HUGE! You have amazing view points and you can walk through the fields.
Uluwatu Temple This temple build at the cliff at the south of Uluwatu. It’s beautiful and a must visit when you are in Bali. A tip form my side is to visit either early in the morning or late in the afternoon. We visited during the day, you have to climb a lot of stairs so you can imagine it’s super hot! Also they offer sarongs you can wear for free but they are made of a super thick material, I brought my own one.
Tegenungan Waterfall Ubud There are a lot of waterfall around Ubud, we visited the Tegenungan waterfal which was beautiful. Again, lot’s of stairs but worth every step 😉 Go early in the morning when it’s not super crowded and don’t forget to wear your bikini!
Gunung Kawi Tempel Ubud The temple is beautiful but the surroundings and nature even more so! The whole experience is a must when you are in or around Ubud. But again lot’s and lot’s of stairs 😉
Just drive At every hotel we rented a scooter. The traffic in Bali can be quite dangerous and you have to drive on the left side. But if you drive careful it also can be such an amazing experience. We discovered so much more by driving around with no plan. It’s super cheap and the best way to transport yourself!
Gili Islands Book a trip to Gili. There a 3 islands Gili Trawangan, Air en Meno. All incredibly beautiful and bounty island-esque. We went to Gili Trawangan for a beautiful wedding and stayed 2 nights. We stayed at the sunset side where it’s not so busy but really peaceful. My favourite places where Casa Vintage and Le Pirate to have lunch and just chill at the beach. You can also snorkel around the island. Would love to come back here and discover the 2 other islands and maybe Lombok which is really close by.
Nusa Lembongan A lovely little island close by Bali (a 30 min boat ride) We actually had bad weather 3 of the 4 days we stayed there which was such a bummer. It’s a super small island so perfect to rent a scooter and drive around the island. A must is Nusa Ceningan, a smaller island next to Lembongan with beautiful beaches. Also lot’s of snorkeling to do here 😉 A must see at Nuse Lembongan is the “Devils Tear’. I could easily sit and watch the waves crashing the rocks for hours and hours, it’s really spectaculair!
Where the best beaches at
I heard the beaches in Bali are not as pretty as Thailand for example. So if you are going to Bali to see beautiful beaches this probably isn’t the best place to go to. But there are some pretty gems to find!
Bingin Beach Uluwatu Our number 1 favourite place. A beautiful beach, lot’s of surfers, light Blue sea and lot’s os nice places to have a fresh young coconut.
Pedang-Pedang Uluwatu Such a beautiful beach with big rocks and lot’s of monkeys!
The Naked Coconut Canggu Such a cute and super small beach “club” next to finn’s beach club. They have fatboys where you can chill and order fresh watermelon juices all day!
Dreambeach Nusa Lembongan Like the name suggest this beach is just like a dream! White sand and crystal clear water. What more can you wish for?
So, that’s it guys! All my tips of what to do in Bali. Can’t believe our trip is over, really hope we’ll be back in the future. Also really curious about the other island like Flores, Lombok and Komodo. Have you ever been?
Stay tuned for the vlogs where I will show you more of our trip and you can actually see everything I talked about.
Speak soon guys!!
